This is the internationally recognized standard for silver used in jewelry. 100% silver is soft and difficult to shape, making it difficult to make into jewelry. It is also prone to oxidation, commonly known as discoloration. However, 925 silver, due to the addition of other metals, increases its hardness, making it less susceptible to oxidation, discoloration, and deformation when used in jewelry and handicrafts. The finished product also boasts a superior luster.
