The 2nd International Jade Summit will take place June 13 during the Monterey Bay Jade Festival.
Pacific Grove, Calif.-Mason-Kay Jade is bringing its International Jade Summit back to Monterey, California.
In its second year, the one-day event will be held June 13, during the Monterey Bay Jade Festival, which is taking place from June 12-14.
The educational event will offer three seminars designed for gemologists, jewelry appraisers, and retail jewelry sales staff who want to learn more about jade and the jade market.
Dr. Aaron Palke, senior researcher at GIA, will give a presentation on origin determination in Burmese and Guatemalan jadeite jade, as well as new developments in jade research.
William Ralston-Saul, COO of Kazak jade mining company Jade Resources Ltd., will present on Kazakhstan jadeite jade.
Jade Resources Ltd. owns the Itmurundy jadeite deposit in Kazakhstan, the world's largest known jadeite deposit.
Its first commercial mine began operating last year, producing what is currently the newest material on the jade market, according to Mason-Kay.
Jade artist and sculptor Georg Schmerholz will speak on the topic of jade as a sculptural medium.
The International Jade Summit is set for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will take place at the Monterey History and Art Museum, located at 5 Custom House Plaza.
Time will be allotted for professional networking, organizers said.
Tickets to the summit include access to all three seminars, as well as lunch, and are available on Eventbrite, priced at $108.54 each after fees.
Following the summit, attendees are encouraged to browse the museum exhibits and explore the festival, including the annual Georg Schmerholz Jade Carving Exhibition next door at the Stanton Center at the Custom House Plaza.
